Bilberries May Help Control IBD

Bilberries (or huckleberries) may help control symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease. Researchers in Europe suggest positive results (see article) from a study of colitis in mice. Blueberries are a close relative to bilberries, so they might serve as a more accessible alternative.

Here's an excerpt:
Bilberries, which are a close relative to blueberries, contain anthocyanins, pigments that have antioxidant, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory properties. Previous studies show bilberries are effective in the management of diarrhea, which is one of the main characteristics of inflammatory bowel disease.

  1. Wow, bilberries look almost like blueberries. They sure look delicious too.

From what I have learned from my experience as a Crohn's Disease Survivor, dark fruits and vegetables have high phytonutrients in them .

The phytonutrients are excellent health promoting nutrition that helps the human body function best.

Of course, even the lighter skins fruits and veggies are still good for you. The darker ones though have the highest concentration of them.

Here are some other fruits that have high antioxidant and health strengthening nutrition in them : acai, noni, goji and mangosteen.

  2. Yes , I thought it was the same as blueberries. LOL. anyhow, just an FYI, aside from controlling IBD, Huckleberries has a content classified as one of the B-complex vitamins, is a nutrient thought to have cancer-fighting benefits. And could be a complementary and alternative medicine for cancer.
